ABSTRACT
Simulation and parameter variation of novel gas turbine-based cycles require a
simple yet reliable cooled gas turbine model that is easy to implement. This
study proposes a generic cooling model using open-loop cooling. The model has
been tuned to represent modern heavy-duty gas turbines in cooperation with the
gas turbine manufacturers involved in the ENCAP (Enhanced Capture of CO2, EU 6th
Framework Programme) project, of which this work is a part. Additionally, a
commercial gas turbine simulation tool has verified the results of the model.
Besides the conventional working fluid air, the model has been investigated for
a CO2/H2O working fluid typical for a semi-closed
oxygen-combustion gas turbine cycle, since the cooling model will be used for
simulation of such cycles and pre-combustion cycles within the ENCAP project.
