ABSTRACT
ENCAP (ENhanced CO2 CAPture) is a major technology development
project under the 6th framework programme of the European Commission involving
European fossil fuel end users, European technology providers, high ranked
research institutes and universities aimed at developing cost efficient
pre-combustion CO2 capture technologies, including pre-combustion
decarbonisation and Oxyfuel technologies, to substantially reduce the cost of CO2
capture. ENCAP targets at least 90% CO2 capture rate and 50% CO2
capture cost reduction from current levels.
The goal of subproject 3 “Oxyfuel boiler technologies” within ENCAP is to show
that Oxyfuel combustion of bituminous coal and lignite can deliver a CO2
avoidance cost of 20€/tonne of CO2 avoided, through the application
of innovative design and utilisation of process integration opportunities.
